Economic Power / Technological Power

Japan is still one of the world's strongest economic powers even though its market share relatively decreased due to foreign countries economic development in the 21st century. Japan, a country with scarce natural resources, has achieved high economic growth through “craftsmanship”. Technology capability that supported the high value-added craftsmanship is still highly praised by the world as one of the features of Japan’s manufacturing industry.

Bullet Trains

The Shinkansen, or bullet train, first came into service in 1964 as the world’s first high-speed rail that operated at speed faster than 200km/h. Compared to high-speed rail developed in other countries, the Shinkansen is extremely punctual and runs on short intervals, enabling large traffic volume. Since 1964, there have been no passenger fatalities due to train accidents which the train companies are held accountable for. ATC (Automatic Train Control) and centralized traffic control manages all train operations, enabling a safe and punctual operation.
