Q.
Why did you decide to study in Japan?
A.
I was majoring in Japanese Linguistics and Culture in Vietnam. Japan was the country that I wanted to visit and stay for at least a few years to fully explore the country and culture. Additionally, I could receive full scholarship from Shizuoka University which made my dream possible.
Q.
What was your best experience while studying in Japan?
A.
Landing on Japan from the airplane on the first day of arrival was the best moment. I still remember the excitement that I had on the day. Another moment would be the time I became confident in communicating with local Japanese when doing part-time job and volunteering in Kid’s cafeteria.
Q.
Through this experience, what did you learn?
A.
I had an opportunity to join a program named ‘International Students Conference’. When I first came to Japan, there were times that I felt frustrated by the differences between I and Japanese. However, attending that program taught me various perspectives from different countries and cultures. I could learn to be more embracing and tolerant about the differences.
Q.
What kind of person should come to Japan for study abroad?
A.
I am from Vietnam which is also a part of Asia, but I could still find many distinctive and unique aspects of Japan different from Vietnam. Studying abroad is a journey of exploring and navigating new things. If you are a person who is eager to attain new experiences, please go ahead!
Q.
What advice can you give to those who are thinking of studying in Japan?
A.
It is possible to economically sustain yourself in Japan by doing part-time jobs. However, I strongly recommend you to plan ahead how to manage your financial situation so that your life here is not solely comprised of studying and working. I want you to also go outside of the university and find good opportunities to learn using your precious time.
