Q.
Why did you decide to study in Japan?
A.
I spent 4 years of my childhood in Japan because my mother was working in Japan. I wanted come back to Japan and revisit my childhood memories. Also, I wanted to practice and develop my Japanese skill as well.
Q.
What was your best experience while studying in Japan?
A.
Meeting diverse international students from all around the world was definitely one of my best moments in Japan. Another moment would be when I reconnected to my elementary school friends after 10 years. In Japan, all 20-year-old youth are invited to ‘coming-of-age ceremony’ and I could meet my old friends there.
Q.
Through this experience, what did you learn?
A.
Since I am living and learning in Japan, I could gain a deeper understanding about Japanese social issues, not only the knowledge itself but also the significance of each issue. This understanding gave me new perspectives of how to interpret, compare, and suggest solutions regarding the social issues of other countries including Thailand.
Q.
What kind of person should come to Japan for study abroad?
A.
I would say a person who is willing and opened to learn and adapt to new environment. It does not mean that you need to completely change yourself. However, I think being flexible in terms of accepting new culture and customs would definitely help you experience the deeper level of Japanese society.
Q.
What advice can you give to those who are thinking of studying in Japan?
A.
While it is important to learn about Japan and mingle with Japanese friends, I suggest you to also keep in touch with your own communities in Japan. Meeting your home country friends and communities from time to time will give you refreshing moments by speaking your own language and probably eating your home country food.
